ABOUT STACIE

Greetings!

My Intention and Process

What is most notable about my expressive, fauve, oil or acrylic paintings and commissioned portraits are the vibrant color and direct energy.

For commissions I use a softly defined approach.

For the paintings I use imagery of people, places, and objects from my life, imagination, and reference photos and playfully reinvent them.  My contemporary art is influenced by Matisse for color and joy, David Hockney for bold liveliness, and Keith Haring for fun animation.

The work is emotionally based.  Color is the main ingredient, since my life is full of it.  My experience contains darkness and light energies and plenty of various others, which create unique vibrant and subtle expressions in the work.  The paintings exist on their own terms, outside of trends.

When in my studio I retreat from worldly concerns and create from an intuitive realm that shows up as joy.  When people see my art, they tell me that joy is what they feel.  I am so pleased because it is the greatest honor to affirm life and love through art.  Having a canvas that emanates this feels good to have around.

Some words to describe the paintings are: honest, soulful, inspirational, harmonious, relatable, and fun.

And let me add this:  I paint for the joy of creation, to celebrate the spirit, to satisfy the eye, to engage in childlike imagination, to feel free, to use juicy color, to connect and inspire people, for the love of art.

The Evolution of My Work

Portraits.  My colorful style is perfectly suited for commissioned portraits of a client or their beloved family, pets, objects, landscape, or home.

Art Influences.
My art embraces Expressionism’s sense of freedom, the brilliant color of the Fauves, and Pop’s animation. Favorite painters include Vincent Van Gogh, Pierre Bonnard, Henri Matisse, Franz Marc, David Hockney, Keith Haring.

I Paint in Themes.
I have painted on canvases from small to large, in themes inspired by periods of my life and relationships, interests, and exhibits. Themes include Women, Couples, Groups, New York City, Southwest, Pets, Flowers, Landscape, House and Garden, Reclining Women, the Mother Series, Energy.

A Little Background.
Originally from Long Island, I studied art at the State University of New York at New Paltz, and earned a BPS at SUNY Empire State College.  I fell in love with the Mid Hudson Valley and made it my home. I have a husband and two grown sons, and a variety of cats and dogs have been family.  They turn up as figures in some of my paintings!  Part of a family of artists, my grandfather was an illustrator and art director, my mother-in-law was a German Expressionist painter, and my brother and both my sons are musicians.

Cooperative Membership. I am a member of Hudson Valley based coops Long Reach Arts, and RoostArts.
